Designer Spotlight: Ichiro Iwasaki.

Ichiro Iwasaki is a product designer based in Tokyo, Japan.

Born in Tokyo in 1965, he started his career at Sony Design Center before moving to Italy and working with several design studios in Milan. He then moved back to Tokyo in 1995 and founded Iwasaki Design Studio.

Iwasaki is the brain behind the Flat, Pin and Tube series of wall, ceiling, floor and table lamps by Vibia. His design experience ranges from household items to electronic devices and more. His lighting designs are often modular, featuring simple silhouettes and subtle colour palettes.

Iwasaki’s philosophy centres around the improvement of our intimate spaces and everyday rituals through clean, contemporary aesthetics and simple function.

He has achieved a number of international design awards, including Japan’s Good Design Award gold, a Gold iF Design Award, a Red Dot Best of the Best and a Silver German Design Award.

Iwasaki also serves as a part-time lecturer at Tokyo University of the Arts and Tama Art University.
